Kris Lane received his B.A. in History and Latin American Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1991, and his Ph.D in History from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) in 1996. He joined the history faculty at the College of William & Mary in 1997 after a year as Visiting Asst. Prof. at the University of Miami, Coral Gables. He has written a book, entitled "Pillaging the Empire: Piracy in the Americas, 1500-1750" (Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe Press, 1998 -- published in the UK and Jamaica as "Blood & Silver," Oxford: Signal Books), and several articles regarding piracy, slavery, gold mining, headhunting, and witchcraft in colonial Ecuador and Colombia. His new book, "Quito, 1599: City & Colony in Transition," will be published by the University of New Mexico Press in summer 2002.
